Tobacco Free Policy

Stanton Territorial Health Authority (STHA) is 100% tobacco-free. This Tobacco Free policy was developed as part of a wider commitment to provide a safe environment for our patients, staff, and visitors, and to promote and encourage healthy behaviours in our community.

As the largest health facility in the Territories, STHA joined an ever-growing movement of hospitals and healthcare facilities world-wide that have moved towards being 100% tobacoo-free, recognizing the important role they play in the prevention of disease.

In the words of STHA Medical Director Jim Corkal,

“The medical staff is proud to be a part of this tobacco free initiative. This policy has the chance to improve the health of hundreds of patients and their families.”

We understand the addictive nature of tobacco products and we want our patients to be as comfortable as possible and feel supported during their stay. When you are admitted to the hospital you will be asked whether you smoke or use tobacco products and offered nicotine replacement therapies (patch, gum, and inhaler). Resources and support will be available for those who want to quit.

This policy is about where people smoke, not whether they smoke. Please see below for a detailed map of the hospital grounds and more information on our brand new Tobacco-Free Policy.
